Saturday & Sunday :: Noon to 10PM
Monday’s :: 3PM to 10PM

The Gyppo Ale Mill is Shelter Cove’s first & ONLY craft brewery and taproom. It has long been a dream of ours to combine our love for beer, family and community. This dream has had it’s ups and down but it is a dream that we hold strong to.

Our goals for the Gyppo Ale Mill is to server you kick-ass quality beers, superb food humbly served in a warm and friendly space. If you know us than you’ll know that family is extremely important part of who we are. Integrating our family into this project is just a part of how we do things. If you are looking for a new nightclub or all night dive bar, we’re sorry to disappoint. That will not be us. If you are looking for a place kick up your heels, see some familiar friendly faces, eat some quality food and wash it down with a good beer, then we’re on the same page.

Thanks you for your continued patience & support of us.

Cheers to an Independent & Freewheeling life!

UPDATE 6/27/2018:  Nate McAlpine has left the employment of Gyppo Ale Mill.  For employment reference, please email:

The Gyppo Ale Mill is excited to introduce Southern Humboldt to the newest member of our family, Nathan McAlpine. McAlpine has taken on the position of Director of Fermentation.  He and his lovely family, wife Lindsey and son Brule, will be moving from Bend, Oregon and making their home in Shelter Cove.

McAlpine graduated from Siebel Institute of Technology World Brewing Academy but also has a degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Deluth-Minnesota.  He started his brewing career back in 2008 and since then has worked for the big, Founders Brewery & Deschutes Brewery and the small, North Rim Brewing and Craft Kitchen.

McAlpine’s favorite style of beer is the Imperial Stout but with that said, he excited about creating many different styles of beer.  I mentioned to him that often folks in Shelter Cove end up drinking Pacifico, Coors or Budweiser.  His response, great!  I can make a light lager and even rice lagers like Budweiser. Budweiser is made up of 30% rice in addition to hops and barely malt.

We of course had the chance to taste an array of McAlpine’s beers which were delicious!   Cannot wait to get our brewery fired up and McAlpine creating away.  Speaking of, be sure to follow our Instagram or Facebook feed.  You'll see the progress of the construction as well as the installation of the brewery and the kitchen.  Cheers!

Gyppo Has A Home

We are extremely proud to announce that the Gyppo Ale Mill has FINALLY found a welcome home.  The Shelter Cove Resort Improvement District manager Phillip Young recommended an approval of our project and the Board of Directors UNANIMOUSLY did just that!  Hip Hip Hooray! Now onward and upward!
