The Gyppo Ale Mill is Shelter Cove’s first & ONLY craft brewery and taproom. It has long been a dream of ours to combine our love for beer, family and community. This dream has had it’s ups and down but it is a dream that we hold strong to.

Our goals for the Gyppo Ale Mill is to server you kick-ass quality beers, superb food humbly served in a warm and friendly space. If you know us than you’ll know that family is extremely important part of who we are. Integrating our family into this project is just a part of how we do things. If you are looking for a new nightclub or all night dive bar, we’re sorry to disappoint. That will not be us. If you are looking for a place kick up your heels, see some familiar friendly faces, eat some quality food and wash it down with a good beer, then we’re on the same page.

Thanks you for your continued patience & support of us.

Cheers to an Independent & Freewheeling life!

Tree of Gratitude

It is the time of year to reflect on all the things in our life that we are grateful for.

Appreciating the small things in life,
Being grateful for everything we have,
Being mindful of the things that are going right in our lives
and the people we hold closest to their hearts.

We invite you to share these little tidbits and moments with our community by participating in our Gratitude tree. Please join us each time you come in to add one, two or even three leafs to the Gyppo Gratitude Tree.  It will be fun to see this tree grow leaves and read about all the things our community is grateful for. In these changes times, it is important to remember all that we have, not all that we don’t.

Latin Peppers :: Live Music

A Humboldt favorite, Latin Peppers are coming to Shelter Cove! Join us for a great night of Latin music and dancing.

Called the "best Latin band north of the Bay Area,” the Latin Peppers always bring irresistible, high energy salsa and Latin dance music with an Afro-Cuban feel. The members have many years performing experience throughout the Northcoast, led by Jimmy Durchslag on trombone, who also does the arrangements. Jimmy has appeared with numerous Latin bands including local favorites Ponche and Kachimbo. He teaches the Latin ensemble at the annual Lark Music Camp in Mendocino. Orlando Morales plays timbales, congas and percussion. He has been a stalwart of the Latin scene in the SF Bay Area for many years. The group also includes Jennifer Dominick on piano, Andy Barnett, leader of the Garberville Town Band, on trumpet, Lee Phillips on bass, and Arnold Morales on congas. The Latin Peppers strongly reflect the dance music of Cuba ranging from John Coltrane to Maraca, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Buena Vista Social Club and Mongo Santamaria, all with compelling rhythms that showcase tight ensemble playing and soulful improvisation.

Pints 4 Non-Profits :: Cape Mendocino Lighthouse Preservation Society

The Gyppo Ale Mill is thrilled to be partnered up with the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse Preservation Society for yet another Pints 4 Nonprofit. This non-profit organization was created in 1997 to help raise money and manage the relocation of the light house. The lighthouse was built in San Francisco, the lantern (glass top) and the lens were built in France and the lighthouse was assembled at the cape in the fall of 1868. Over $4,000 per year is spent operating the lighthouse and the organization just spent 15K to re-glaze all 48 windows to prevent water leakage.  Help these folks out by joining us from 3pm to 6pm on November 14th. For every beer drank between these hours, the Gyppo Ale Mill will donate $1. At the end of the night, we’ll tally the numbers, double it and donate that to the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse Preservation Society! Sharing is Caring!

Come on in and drink for a good cause, and if you are feeling extra generous, drop a little extra cash in their donation jar!

LIVE MUSIC :: Minor Birds

Intense, soaring vocals and classical-inspired piano amalgamate to concoct dramatic indie rock with a misting of moody goth/doom folk.

A classically trained pianist and self-taught multi-instrumentalist (including guitar, accordion, and banjo), Wilde has been composing and performing music in different capacities since childhood.  Rising from the dust of a creative dry spell brought on by a series of tragic events in her life in 2008, the band, moniker and concept of Minor Birds was hatched.

Channeling deep-sea emotional depths, the project finds Wilde exploring life’s mysticism and darkness mixed with a healthy infusion of timeless tales of love - or lack thereof.
